In a major push towards sustainable entertainment infrastructure, Freyr Energy has partnered with Allu Cinemas to commission a 727 kW rooftop solar power system at Allu Cinemas in Kokapet (Narsingi), Hyderabad. The project marks one of the largest solar installations for a cinema facility in the region and highlights the growing adoption of renewable energy within commercial entertainment spaces.
The solar installation, developed with an investment of ₹2.27 crore, is expected to meet nearly 60 percent of the cinema complex’s total energy requirements. According to the companies, the transition to solar power will dramatically reduce annual electricity expenditure from approximately ₹52 lakh to nearly ₹5 lakh, generating estimated yearly savings of ₹77–80 lakh.
Beyond financial benefits, the project is also expected to make a substantial environmental impact by reducing nearly 750 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually. To ensure efficient energy generation and low-maintenance operations, the system has been equipped with a high-pressure automated sprinkler mechanism for solar panel cleaning.
Speaking on the development, Radhika Choudary said that energy-intensive facilities such as movie theatres can significantly benefit from solar adoption by reducing dependency on conventional power grids and managing rising operational costs more efficiently. She added that the initiative reflects the increasing importance of sustainability in commercial infrastructure.
Renowned producer Allu Aravind said the solarisation of Allu Cinemas is a practical step towards integrating clean energy into day-to-day operations. He noted that cinema complexes consume large amounts of electricity, and the move would help optimise energy usage while improving long-term operational efficiency.
The collaboration between Freyr Energy and Allu Cinemas is being seen as a benchmark initiative for sustainable cinema infrastructure in Hyderabad, combining modern entertainment with environmentally responsible operations.
