Odfjell Technology has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ANT (Applied New Technologies) to jointly deliver an advanced erosion-based solution for well plug and abandonment (P&A) projects across Southeast Asia.
Under the agreement, Odfjell Technology will combine its rigless intervention units and specialist fishing milling services with ANT’s wellANT nozzle head technology to enhance efficiency, safety and environmental performance in P&A operations.
The collaboration centres around ANT’s Water Abrasive Suspension (WAS) technology, which enables the precise removal of internal wellbore obstructions without the use of mechanical force or heat. The process significantly reduces the generation of conventional large cuttings and minimises micro swarf, helping preserve well integrity while restoring full wellbore access.
According to the companies, the technology is designed to improve operational efficiency while lowering costs and reducing the need for full drilling rigs during intervention and abandonment projects.
Paul Toner said the partnership strengthens the company’s ability to meet evolving demands in the P&A sector.
“Incorporating wellANT into our services further increases the significant cost and time efficiencies that we can deliver over conventional methods to meet the evolving demands of P&A and intervention,” Toner said.
He added that the non-intrusive erosion technology not only preserves well integrity but also enhances safety and environmental performance when used alongside Odfjell Technology’s rigless solutions.
Southeast Asia has emerged as a key market for P&A activity, with a growing number of aging wells expected to require intervention in the coming years. Odfjell Technology said its regional footprint positions the company to support this demand, while also providing opportunities for future geographical expansion of the wellANT solution.
