MNRE to host Global Wind Day 2026 conference in Goa to accelerate wind energy growth

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) will host the Global Wind Day 2026 Conference in Goa on June 15, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, developers, manufacturers and energy experts to chart the future of India’s wind energy sector. The conference will be held under the theme “Wind Energy: From Ambition to Acceleration.”

The event will be led by MNRE Pralhad Joshi and MoS NRE Shripad Yesso Naik, along with senior officials from MNRE and key institutions including the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA), National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE) and Grid India. Representatives from state governments and major industry bodies such as the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA), Wind Independent Power Producers Association (WIPPA) and Indian Wind Power Association (IWPA) are also expected to participate.

India has emerged as the world’s fourth-largest wind power market and has set ambitious targets of achieving 100 GW of wind energy capacity by 2030 and 155 GW by 2035. Wind energy remains a critical pillar in India’s broader objective of reaching 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based power capacity and achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.

Highlighting the significance of the sector, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said that wind energy lies at the heart of India’s renewable energy strategy. He noted that the record addition of 6.1 GW of wind capacity during 2025–26 demonstrated the impact of effective policy support and strong collaboration between government and industry.

“The next phase demands acceleration. On Global Wind Day 2026, the focus must shift from ambition to execution, as India also positions itself to seize global export opportunities,” Joshi said.

MNRE Secretary Santosh Kumar Sarangi will also participate in the conference, which will focus on key priorities shaping the next phase of India’s wind energy journey. Discussions will cover resource adequacy, grid preparedness, capacity expansion, domestic manufacturing competitiveness, export opportunities, forecasting technologies and renewable energy firming solutions.

A major highlight of the event will be the release of several industry reports and knowledge papers. Among them is “Elevating India’s Wind Turbine Exports for Global Markets,” a report that outlines India’s potential to become a global manufacturing and export hub for wind turbine technology.

The conference will feature plenary sessions and panel discussions involving government representatives, regulators, developers, manufacturers and sector experts. Participants will explore practical strategies to accelerate project deployment, improve execution efficiency, strengthen domestic manufacturing capabilities and enhance India’s competitiveness in the global renewable energy market.

As India enters a new phase of wind energy expansion, Global Wind Day 2026 is expected to serve as a key platform for shaping policies and action plans that will support sustained sector growth and advance the country’s clean energy ambitions.
