Sunkonnect targets 200 MT CO₂ reduction by 2030, aligning with India’s climate goals

Renewable energy advisory firm Sunkonnect has unveiled an ambitious plan to help eliminate up to 200 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions by 2030, positioning itself as a key private-sector contributor to India’s climate commitments under the Paris Agreement.

The announcement comes as the Government of India advances its target of reducing one billion tonnes of carbon emissions by the end of the decade. Sunkonnect’s initiative alone aims to contribute nearly 20% of this national goal, underscoring the growing role of private enterprises in driving the country’s transition to a low-carbon economy.

India’s sustainability roadmap has traditionally focused on metro cities, but Sunkonnect is shifting attention toward tier 2 and tier 3 cities regions expected to drive the next phase of economic growth and consequently, emissions. By introducing advanced climate consulting, digital energy management systems and international certification expertise, the company aims to embed sustainable practices in emerging urban and industrial hubs.

Dr Avishek Kumar, Founder of Sunkonnect, emphasised the dual nature of infrastructure expansion. He noted that rapid development presents both challenges and opportunities, adding that achieving net-zero emissions will require actionable insights, strong partnerships and technology-driven solutions.

Sunkonnect provides a wide range of services, including greenhouse gas accounting, climate consulting, and tailored net-zero roadmaps aligned with Indian regulations and global standards. The firm supports clients in securing globally recognised certifications such as LEED, WELL, and IGBC.

Through AI-powered building management systems and IoT-enabled energy optimisation, Sunkonnect claims to help businesses achieve up to 25% energy savings and reduce operational costs by as much as 40%. These efficiencies are expected to play a crucial role in advancing India’s broader goals of energy security and carbon reduction.

Highlighting its collaborative approach, Sunkonnect recently partnered with the Foundation for MSME Clusters as a carbon-neutral partner during the 9th PMO Awards. The company calculated and offset all event-related emissions using verified carbon credits, demonstrating how sustainability can be integrated into large-scale public events.

According to Rohit Kumar Sikkewal, such initiatives illustrate the potential of public-private partnerships to mainstream climate action while supporting responsible economic growth.

Beyond consultancy, Sunkonnect is investing in research, industry engagement and capacity building initiatives. The company is actively working across sectors such as steel, infrastructure and hospitality industries identified as critical to achieving India’s climate targets.

With multiple projects underway across commercial buildings, academic institutions, and MSME clusters, Sunkonnect is also planning to expand its sustainability services into a dedicated entity, reinforcing its long-term commitment to measurable environmental impact.
