SAIL logs highest ever FY26 sales, expands product portfolio

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has reported its best-ever sales performance for the April 2025–February 2026 period, driven by strong demand and improved operational efficiency. The Maharatna public sector steel producer recorded total sales of 18.24 million tonnes (MT) during the 11-month period of FY26, marking a 14% year-on-year growth.

The company also achieved its highest-ever cash collection of ₹1.11 lakh crore, registering a 10% year-on-year increase. According to SAIL, the growth was supported by improvements across multiple distribution channels, including retail sales, stockyard sales, and door deliveries, reflecting a stronger customer-focused approach.

In February 2026 alone, SAIL reported total sales of 1.58 MT. The company also strengthened its financial position by reducing inventory by 1.05 lakh tonnes compared with January 2026 and lowering its borrowings by ₹1,000 crore, indicating tighter working capital management and improved financial discipline.

To meet evolving market requirements, SAIL has also reintroduced the production of chequered plates, a product widely used in sectors such as construction, infrastructure and transportation due to its anti-slip surface. Notably, this marks the first time chequered plates are being produced at the Bokaro Steel Plant in Jharkhand, expanding the company’s product portfolio and enhancing its capacity to serve specialised market demand.

Commenting on the performance, Dr AK Panda, Director (Finance) with additional charge of Director (Commercial), said the company remains focused on adapting to market dynamics while maintaining financial prudence. He emphasised that effective inventory and working capital management have helped strengthen the company’s financial foundation, while the record sales and cash collections reflect the trust customers place in SAIL.
