TotalEnergies to spotlight expanding African project pipeline at Paris Energy Forum

TotalEnergies is set to highlight its rapidly expanding African portfolio as Senior Vice President for Africa, Mike Sangster, prepares to speak at the Invest in African Energy Forum on April 22–23 in Paris.

The company enters 2026 with one of its most active development pipelines on the continent, spanning upstream oil, liquefied natural gas (LNG), and renewable energy projects. Africa continues to play a pivotal role in TotalEnergies’ global strategy, contributing nearly half of its operated production and representing the largest share of its exploration spending.

TotalEnergies is advancing several high-impact projects aimed at boosting production capacity across Africa. In the Republic of the Congo, the company committed $500 million in 2025 to expand operations at the Moho Nord field. The investment is expected to add approximately 40,000 barrels per day, reinforcing the field’s position as a cornerstone of the country’s oil output.

In East Africa, Uganda’s Tilenga project is progressing steadily toward first oil. The development is supported by the 1,443 kilometre East African Crude Oil Pipeline, which will transport crude to Tanzania’s port of Tanga for export.

Meanwhile, in Mozambique, TotalEnergies is working toward restarting its $20 billion LNG project. With a planned capacity of 13 million tons per annum, the project is expected to unlock vast gas reserves and serve as a major driver of production growth in the coming years.

Beyond existing developments, TotalEnergies is also advancing exploration in emerging hydrocarbon regions. In Namibia, the company is targeting a final investment decision for the Venus discovery by the fourth quarter of 2026, positioning it as one of the most closely watched deepwater projects globally.

In South Africa, preparations are underway to drill offshore Block 3B/4B in the Orange Basin, pending regulatory approvals. The move reflects growing industry interest in the basin’s untapped potential.

While oil and gas remain central to its strategy, TotalEnergies is also expanding its footprint in cleaner energy. The company is advancing solar projects across Southern and North Africa, alongside hydropower initiatives in Uganda.

Additionally, it has maintained zero routine flaring across operations in Nigeria, Gabon and Angola, aligning with broader environmental commitments.

Sangster’s appearance at the Paris forum comes at a critical juncture, as TotalEnergies transitions from exploration to execution across multiple African assets. With new production volumes expected to come online and major LNG projects moving forward, the company is positioning Africa as a key engine of growth through 2026 and beyond.

The upcoming forum is expected to provide further insight into how TotalEnergies plans to balance large-scale hydrocarbon investments with its evolving energy transition strategy on the continent.
